Club

The Syracuse Football Club provide training to advanced youth soccer players from the Greater Syracuse area. Our organization fields girls and boys teams in the age groups U8 through U19, offering a ten-month program from November through August. Our schedule of competition features an extensive number of both indoor and outdoor tournaments, as well as Regional and State cup play. The club's training facilities will include several outdoor fields and indoor soccer facilities around the Greater Syracuse area for year-round practices and scrimmages.

The Syracuse Football Club will offer a soccer-learning environment that is unsurpassed in Central New York. A highly qualified and experienced coaching staff coordinates the advance training. All coaches are or will be nationally licensed, former national team, professional, semi-professional and / or college players. Additionally, the club is supported by an active and highly regarded advisory staff that included personnel from the former Syracuse Salty Dogs A-League organization and coaches or assistant coaches from area universities and colleges.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Players will be considered for position on a team roster based on several factors including:

  • Ability
  • Commitment
  • Attitude
  • Age
  • Player development

TIMELINES:

  • September Initial tryouts to determine players who will be rostered to a given age group
  • Fall Training sessions and tryouts for individual age groups where appropriate
  • Nov. through Jan Indoor Session I (training for age groups)
  • January End of Indoor Session I (team rosters finalized)

TEAM ROSTERS: It is intended to commit to players for permanent positions within the club soon after tryouts/player identification. An age group will support a single and possibly a second team that will compete in State or Regional leagues

Age groups will train players through January before rosters are finalized. This promotes fairness for each player. The teams' coaching staffs will use this time to evaluate what competition level is appropriate for each player.

  • [Under10] Game format 7 vs 7 14 player maximum rosters
  • [Under 11] Gave format 9 vs 9 18 player maximum rosters
  • [Under >12] Game format 11 vs 11 18 players maximum rosters

Acceptance for permanent positions within the club must be accompanied with an initial payment of $150, which is applied, to the player's tuition. Players that are not accepted for permanent positions will have the opportunity to play and develop in our academy program, where his or her development will be monitored. All players are invited to contact coaching staffs for feedback concerning tryout performance and evaluation.

Commitment for Participants and Families

The Syracuse Football Club is committed to the team and individual players development of each participant in the Syracuse Football Club program. The combination of talented, dedicated players and quality coaches equals a successful program. Commitment is critical in the Premier level environment.

The following information outlines the basic expectations required to assure the success of the program:

Time Commitment: The game of Soccer must be the player's sports passion. Participating in other sports programs is accepted. Participation in other sports that require multiple activities per week could jeopardize the player's ability to develop or maintain skill sets that will help his or her team. The players and teams train and compete both indoors and outdoors from Novembe and August.

Indoor training consist of practices, league play and tournaments. On the average, teams will train and compete approximately 2-3 times per week.

Outdoor training consist of 2-3 days of practice per week once weather permits. Tournament participation begins as early as March.

Tournaments Most teams will compete in at least 4 tournaments throughout the season. This involvement could be greater depending on State Cup championships, etc. Out of town and out of state tournaments are common, requiring the players and even family travel. The club and individual teams expect players to attend all tournaments chosen by the team.

League play begins in late April and runs through July. Premier teams (U12 U19) will compete in appropriate leagues that will offer higher levels of competition. For away league games, travel to sites outside the Greater Syracuse area is required.

The exception to the above would be the younger age groups (U8 - U11), which generally require less commitment due to local league games and most tournaments around the Upstate area.

Financial Commitment: Each team has an operating budget, which includes items such as uniforms, equipment, indoor training facilities and coaches/ref/league fees. The minimum approximate cost for a Premier team player (U12 & U19) is $900. Per player costs on individual teams could be greater depending on indoor training, tournament participation, State Cup involvement, ect. Each family and player will know their respective cost at the start of the season. Teams cost per players will be substantially lower than Premier team cost for players younger than 12 years because of the local nature of their base competition base.

Acceptance for permanent positions within the club must be accompanied with an initial payment of $150, which is applied, to the player's tuition. All fees will be paid to the club in full by April 30th of that season. Fees submitted to the Club will not be returned unless players are in good standing. They will receive credits and/or refunds if overpayment occurs.

Financial Aid: Families can alleviate much of the cost of the program if they participate in fund raising activates and employ a Corporate sponsorship program. Travel costs for tournaments are the responsibility of each individual family.
Team meetings, club events, etc.
The club and teams expect players and appropriate family members to attend all team meetings and club events to ensure communication effectiveness.

Volunteers: The quality of programs we offer to the players is equivalent to the talent and participation level of the parent volunteers. If you have an idea, if you have a talent, please let us know.

Summary: A big commitment? You bet!! Worth the Effort? Absolutely!!

This program will provide players with the best opportunity to train and develop their soccer skills in order to compete at a higher level of the game of soccer! And have fun!
