1/15/2008 - Gale Agbossoumonde Plays for U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team

NYW ODP veteran Gale Agbossoumonde, who currently resides at the IMG Academy Program in Bradenton, Fla., after being part of the USSF Residency Program there for a year, earned a prestigious honor in November when he was named to the United States’ Under-20 Men’s National Team roster for a series of games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Agbossoumonde, who turned only 16 just days before the trip, was one of the youngest members of the team that played three games against professional and national squads from South America.

After earning a 1-1 draw against the Academy team of famed Argentinean professional squad River Plate on Nov. 26, the Americans earned the same scoreline against Argentina’s youth side, with Agbossoumonde playing all 180 minutes on defense in the two contests. The team wrapped up its trip with 1-0 defeat to Uruguay on Dec. 1, with Agbossoumonde entering the game in the 46th minute and playing the full second half.

In addition to his success with the Under-20 Men’s National Team, Agbossoumonde was also recently named team captain for the U.S. ‘91 MNT, and “informed sources” have him linked to an upcoming tryout with Arsenal of England.
NYW is proud of Agbossoumonde’s accomplishments, and wish him all best in what could prove to be an exciting 2008!

Taken in part from the Hazlet Showcase Newsletter, "The Showcase gives you an opportunity to both strengthen your communication with a college you have already contacted, as well as, make new contacts. College coaches want to hear from players that are interested in their teams. If you do not market yourself, you are limiting your potential areas of play."

4/24/2007 - U15 Girls Hosts Region 1 games at SU

The Syracuse Football Club Under 15 Girls’ Elite Soccer Team (Syracuse FC Fury) hosted two US Youth Soccer Region 1 Premier League games today at Syracuse University. This league is split into a North and South Division and consists of the best youth soccer teams in a thirteen (13) State Region spanning from Maine to Virginia. This Region includes fifteen (15) State Youth Soccer Associations with New York and Pennsylvania having an East and West Association, mainly due to the geographical size of the States.

In the matches played on Saturday under a sunny Syracuse sky on one of Syracuse University’s beautiful new practice fields, the Syracuse team defeated the Yankee United Glory from Connecticut by a score of 1 to 0. Later in the same day, the girls tied the defending State Cup Champion from New York East, Massapequa Power by a score of 2-2. With this result on Saturday, the girl’s clinched second place in the eight team North Division and qualified to play in the league’s final four tournament to be held in Kirkwood, Delaware on the weekend of May 12th and 13th.

The girls finished the regular season undefeated with a record of 5 wins - 0 losses - 2 ties. The team finished one point behind the PDA Fire from New Jersey, a team the Syracuse FC Fury defeated 2-1 earlier in the season in a great game played at Rutgers University. The PDA girls are currently ranked as the #1 team in the Nation at this age level by all of the major ranking services. In fact, the loss to Syracuse is their only loss of the 2006-2007 Season which goes from August 1st 2006 to July 31st 2007.

The Syracuse FC Fury team is the two-time defending State Cup Champion at their age level and they are coached by Tony Epifani (former High School All-American at Henninger High School and U17 US National Team Member) and his Assistant Coach Bob Tiddick.

The girls on the team come from Central, Western, and the Southern Tier of New York State to play for this team, with some of the girls traveling up to 2˝ hours each way just to attend practices. The team members are: Carly Bonzerato (Liverpool), Leah Bratt (Central Square), Alison Buzzard (New Hartford), Jordan Dudish (Grand Island), Chelsea Dunay (Cicero-North Syracuse), Sam Dunn (Churchville-Chili), Katie Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville), Danielle Kennedy (Fayetteville-Manlius), Jennifer Locey (CBA, Syracuse), Ali Nagle (Baldwinsville), Kaytlyn Perotti (Solvay), Gabby Racines (Liverpool), Marissa Slayton (Auburn), Bri Smith (Mount St. Mary Academy, Buffalo), Kylie Strom (Union-Endicott), Laura Taylor (Auburn), Maddy Tiddick (Owego), and Chloe Zmolek (CBA, Syracuse).

3/11/2007 - U12G : 3-0 at the Beachside Club Cup Tournament!

The SFC U12G Team, under the direction of Coach Michael Paolini, was the only team participating in the Beachside Club Cup Tournament to win all three of their games!  With a near shut-out (only one goal was scored against the team), the girls dominated on a weekend noted for mysterious weather.  In a dramatic ending to the weekend, it was announced Sunday morning that the SFC Girls would only win overall if the U12G could win their final game (no pressure!)....The girls' "3-0" win made for a great "3-0"th birthday gift to Coach Mike!  The hard work and commitment of the girls and coaches clearly resulted in a top performance by the team this past weekend in Connecticut.  Great job, girls!

2/19/2007 - Five Teams Accepted to Participate in Region 1 Spring Premier League

Congratulations to our U14B, U17B, U15G, U16G and U18G teams for their selection to participate in the Region I Spring Premier League. Regional League play begins anytime after March 1st, and concludes on Mother's Day weekend, May 12/13, 2007. To meet the ever increasing needs of the elite players and teams in Region I, the Regional Director, Bob Palmeiro, and his staff began a series of Regional Leagues (Premier, Regional and Directors). The Region I Premier League is for the top sixteen teams thoughout the Region in the U14 to U18 age groups for both girls and boys. With only sixteen positions available in any age group, entry is competitive. Each year, selection of the 16 teams becomes more difficult. They have established a promotion/relegation system to assure that the best 16 teams are selected for the league. Four invitations for the Premier League will be given to the semi-finalists of the previous year’s Regional Championship [Regional Cup] and four invitations will be given to the top four teams in each of the North and South divisions from the previous year’s Premier Leagues. One invitation will be given to each of the three Sub-Regional leagues champions. Therefore 15 of the 16 invitations will be earned by teams playing regional competition.

To learn more about Region 1 and Regional leagues, please visit http://www.region1.com. To learn more about Region 1 Premier League selection and acceptance, see the Director's Forum @ http://www.region1.com/Forum/1Q04.htm.

Once again, congratulations on the selections noted above.

    8/8/2006 - U16 Boys Clinch National Title

The SFC United Elite U16 Boys clinched the areas first national profile title for their age group at this year’s prestigious Score-at-the-Shore Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina. The four day college showcase tournament hosts the top teams from around the country with many players getting a chance to be seen by the country’s finest schools.
The team’s record in the tournament was 6-0-1 with the last three games being decided on penalty kicks. The quarter-final round had the most excitement the tournament has seen, with both teams shooting until the 17th player. In all, the team was 25 for 27 in penalty kicks, and beat two nationally ranked teams in the top 11 in the country.
The team has a week off before school ball starts where each player excels on and off the field in each of their respective schools (Cazenovia, Central Square, Cicero-North Syracuse, Christian Brothers Academy, Cortland, East-Syracuse Minoa, Fayetteville-Manlius, Fulton, Jamesville-DeWitt, New Hartford, Skaneateles, Westhill, and Whitesboro).
Overall, this team has 6 out of 7 players being looked at by Division I schools and juniors being watched for next year. With the strength and unity of the Syracuse Football Club, soccer has risen to a new level in the area as evidenced by the sheer number of professional and semi-professional coaches and the number of titles and tournaments our best area players have amassed.

8/2/2006 - U15 Elite boys participate in premier showcases

The Syracuse FC U15 Elite boys team (coached by Tom Bonus and Marcello Vitale) traveled to Greensboro, Maryland to participate in one of the nation's premier college showcases. There were over 110 men's college coaches at the tournament that was rated #4 in the nation by Got Soccer last year. Teams representing the best of youth soccer from around the nation were there.

On Friday the boys began their first game on the beautiful bermuda grass fields, playing against the TSC Texans 90-91 (TXS), winning with a score of 1-0. On Saturday they continued their tournament play against another high quality team in a game that could have belonged to either team, but losing 2-1 to Carolina Elite CESA 90 Premier. Later in the afternoon, however, in spite of extreme heat, the boys showed they could come back as they put away Beachside SC U-15 (CT) with a score of 1-0.

The SFC U-15 Boys record was competitive, tied with several other teams in the U15 brackets, and yet with tie breakers they found themselves to be facing the winner of another group, the FC Dallas Youth 91 boys (TXS). With the temperature hot, humid and reaching high into the 90's, the boys proved they still had fight as they kept the score of that game tied 0-0 until about 3 minutes left in the game. At that point the Dallas Youth team was awarded a pk that would determine the game-- and yet SFC rallied with great strength and heart as parents cheered loudly as the boys mounted a challenging attack in the last seconds of the game. The Dallas Youth recognized the determination of our boys and had no choice but to clear the ball off the sidelines again and again. In the end, however, 0-1 for SFC.

BUT WAIT! To see the success of the boys it is important to follow to the end of the tournament. That team, the FC Dallas Youth won the final. 1-0... same score as our own. Defeating, notably, the Texas team that our boys had defeated on Friday. GREAT TOURNAMENT, BOYS!!!

7/23/2006 - Salt City Soccer Tournament (Syracuse FC Results)

11 club teams participated in the 21st Annual Salt City Soccer Tournament - the majority playing up one age division. The U10B team participated in the tournament; festival format for U10s & U11s. Winning their division were the following: U11Gs - U12G Champions, U12Gs - U13G Champions, U15Bs - U16B Champions and U18Gs - U19G Champions. Additional teams participating in the championship game were the U13Bs - U13B Finalists, U14Gs - U15G Finalists and U15Gs(elite) - U16G Finalist. Two additional teams competed in the Semi-Finals: U14B - U15B Semi-Finalists and U15Gs(premier) - U15G Semi-Finalists. The U12Bs (2 wins and 1 loss) just missed out joining the semi's due to tiebreaker. Congratulations to our four (4) Champions, (3) Finalists, (2) Semi-Finalists and all tournament participants. Thank you Salt City for another well run tournament.

7/16/2006 - Syracuse FC U-15 Girls Elite Win Brockport International Soccer Festival

The Syracuse FC U15 Elite girls team (coached by Keith and Kevin Perrigo) traveled to Brockport to participate in the 13th annual Brockport International Soccer Festival. Serious rains the past week, including heavy rains Saturday morning, did not delay play on the pitch nor the team's quality play. The girls won both games Saturday, easily defeating Crown City 3-0 and Buffalo United 5-0. Before the continuation of group play Sunday morning, it was known that their next opponent (KYS Spirit, Kitchener, ON, Canada) would also be the team that they would meet in the finals (the Spirit also won both games Saturday). With the temperature hot, humid and reaching the low 90s, the coaches and referees concurred that it would be in the best interest of the girls that the morning game would also be considered the finals. Syracuse FC played well and controlled possession, winning the championship game 2-0. The team! did not allow a goal all weekend; outscoring their opponents 10-0.

7/9/2006 - Syracuse FC Regional Championships

5 State Cup Championship Teams from Syracuse FC represented New York State West at Regionals in Virginia Beach June 29 - July 4.
The U-13 Boys Elite team coached by Evan Chase and Tommy Tanner finished second in Group Play with a 2-1 record and outscored their opponents 9 goals to 3. They only needed a tie in their final game against superclub FC Delco to advance to the Regional semi-finals but came up short. Coach Evan Chase could not have asked for anymore of his boys and was very proud of the way they played.
The U-16 boys coached by Joe Papaleo, also finished second in their group going 2-0-1 and being eliminated on goall differrential. The U-16 boys Elite team had two chances in the final minute of the last game to win it but both chances missed just wide in a 0-0 game against superclub Goetche. The team won the Fair Play Award and should be very proud of their accomplishments this year.
The U-12 girls Elite team coached by Paul Bonus and Kelly Firenze breezed through their group play going 3-0 and outscoring their opponents 14-0 to reach the Regional Semi- finals. They came up alittle short in the semi's losing 3-1 to a very good team from Connecticut. Reaching the semi-finals of regionals was a great achievement for the girls and we look forward to winning the championship next year said coach Paul Bonus.
The U-14 girls Elite Team coached by Tony Epifani also reached the Regional semi-finals a goal that the team set for themselves this year after not losing a game last year and not advancing. The team went 2-0-1 again this year but this time advanced to the Regional Semi- Finals. Despite controlling most of the play the entire game they lost 2-1 in overtime to Deleware. Coach Tony Epifani has this to say about his team, "I could not be any prouder of the girls performance this entire year, the sacrifice the entire group made to becoming an elite team showed down here at regionals.
The U-18 girls Elite team coached by Paul and Tommy Bonus finished with a 1-2 record at regionals. The girls played very well and with alittle luck in their second group game against Connecticut would have had chance to advance to the semi-finals.
Overall, Syracuse FC finished with 10 wins 3 losses and 2 ties against the very best competition from the entire Region.
